I was super honored to be asked to take on this space. The event was located in the basement, accessible by the elevator. “Descending Clouds” was the transformative thing to get visitors into the “Night Market” vibe.

This work was formed around a climate event I experienced in 2021. Catastrophic flash floods hit the Appalachian region late that summer. The sound of rain, for months after that event, brought on panic and anxiety. Finding ways to cope through making objects allowed me to process it, and to create space for care and repair. Check out “Stack Collapse / Systems Forming" for more work and information about how that all went down.

A bandmate of mine had been dragging a couple sheets of 300lb watercolor paper around for years and years. When asked if I could use it I said “sure”. I thought about using it as a support for painting first, of course, and then this happened, which became the pre-cursor to the elevator installation.

I started making clouds out of cardboard sourced from my home and community a couple years ago. I installed them in the abandoned K-Mart Parking lot in Asheville, NC, where I reside. It was a way for me to process the failure of capitalism, the fleeting nature of materials, limited access to resources for our most vulnerable communities, and the effects / driving forces of climate crisis regarding these ideas.
